Welcome…
TPCNS, Inc. was founded in 1944 by a group of Takoma Park
educators and parents who wanted to unify the nurturing at-home family
experience with the newly emerging concept of the nursery school.Over the
years, the school has changed with the times: once a moms-only outfit,
the school now has both parents working in the classrooms. Cookies became
rice cakes, jungle gyms became climbing structures, and buttons became
VelcroTM, but two, three, and four-year olds never change.
The school is a true nursery, a garden of the most precious resource – children.
It is a protected, well-tended place of rapid growth. Children's minds and bodies
are nourished with rich multi-sensory experiences. A positive attitude, an expression
of faith in each child, and an expectation of progress are vital components of
the school's atmosphere.
The nursery school offers half-day classes specially designed
to be developmentally appropriate for each age group. The school is physically
defined by the different modes of learning -- there is a space for creative
arts (including music, movement, and art), math, science, social studies,
language development, literacy, and physical education. Positive social
and emotional development is woven throughout the curriculum. Our year
begins in September and ends in June, following the Montgomery County Public
School calendar for holidays and closings. Parent participation in the
classroom is a requirement as are attendance of monthly membership meetings
and fulfillment of administrative tasks.
